Upcoming Know Your Rights

Wednesday February 15th at 6:30pm – Know Your Patient’s Rights – Immigration Law Training for Clinicians. This training will be led by PAIR’s Amanda Ekey and is tailored for clinicians, healthcare staff, and community-based organizations (CBOs) who need to understand the rights of immigrants in order to help protect patients/clients.

Wednesday February 15th: Know Your Rights Training with Consulates of El Salvador and Colombia.

Thursday February 16th at 7:00pm – Know Your Rights Training for Volunteers. PAIR’s Amanda Ekey and Elena Noureddine will present at MIRA’s volunteer open house to inform volunteers about immigrant’s rights in encounters with ICE and in the immigration court system.

Recent Past Events

Community Outreach: On January 30, 2017, PAIR’s Amanda Ekey will conduct a training for health care providers on current immigration issues, “hot topics,” “Know Your Rights” and community resources at the Cambridge Health Alliance.

Community Outreach: On January 20, 2017, PAIR’s Amanda Ekey will conduct a “Know Your Rights” presentation and discuss current immigration issues, Raids Response, due process rights, and various forms of immigration relief with students from Boston International Newcomers Academy.  After the workshop, Amanda will provide legal screening for students.

Community Outreach: On December 22, 2016, PAIR’s Amanda Ekey and Jennifer Reyes conducted a community “Know Your Rights” presentation at East Boston Head Start.  They presented on current immigration issues, “Know Your Rights,” common forms of immigration relief, and community resources for immigrants.

Join us: “Know Your Rights: A Community Dialogue for Immigrants and Their Allies” – On Monday, December 5, at 6:30 pm, PAIR in collaboration with The Philanthropy Connection, is holding a post-election community forum on immigration issues. The speakers are: Anita P. Sharma, Executive Director of Political Asylum Immigration Representation Project (PAIR), Seth Purcell, Staff Attorney at PAIR, Adelina Janiak, Immigration Initiative Project Coordinator, Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement, and  Doris Cristobal, asylee, activist, and organizer, 32BJ SEIU. PAIR will also present a “Know Your Rights” Session (in English and Spanish) for anyone in the room who may have questions about their legal status and rights. Community “Know Your Rights” – The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project will conduct a “Know Your Rights” presentation on December 5, from 6-8 at MAVERICK LANDING COMMUNITY ROOM, 31 Liverpool Street, East Boston. Lawyers, including Amanda Ekey and Amy Wax, will be present to discuss other programs (eg. Special Immigrant Juvenile, Asylum).  Come to learn more about your rights.

Friday, December 2, 2016- PAIR’s Anita Sharma will present a KYR at the Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights, Boston Medical Center.

Rapid Response: Community “Know Your Rights” 

PAIR is collaborating with AILA New England and other organizations to provide “Know Your Rights” seminars at community centers, places of worship, and schools in response to the incoming administration’s promise to deport categories of immigrants “immediately” and end DACA.  If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the google document below (see link) with your name, email address, phone, whether you speak Spanish and whether you have relevant prior immigration law experience.   PAIR will provide you with materials and locations.  We are also still looking for suggestions for places in need of presentations so if you know of an organization looking for help on this front, please fill out the google document that asks for location suggestions.  Thanks to AILA New England for setting up the google docs links:
